Google provides an Analytics URL Builder Tool for creating tagged links.

Fill in the fields for your email campaign’s source, medium, term, content, and name. The link parameters that are generated for these variables will be recognized by the Google Analytics Tracking Code and processed for your reports.

Testing tagged emails

Click on a tagged link, the tagging parameters should be seen in the URL of the web page. If not, there are redirecting issues with the site, it strips off the campaign tracking parameters.

Send the email to test accounts and click on some links. In a few hours the tracking data appeares in Google Analytics reports.
